Our Mission
The Columbus metropolitan area has one of the highest concentrations of Somali refugees in the entire nation. The State of Ohio estimates that 45,000 Somali immigrants have settled in central Ohio in the past 10 years with over 60000 in total. SERC’s mission is to provide a haven to all people without discrimination or prejudice. Our objective is to assist first generation immigrants with their educational and career goals. We will do so by:
● Establishing focused programs geared to provide workplace and developmental training for success.
● Assisting youth by offering dynamic mentoring and academic after school tutoring programs.
SERC has enriched the lives of over 27,000 youth in the Columbus area powered by over 180 volunteers.
Who We Are
Somali Education Resource Center is a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization in one of the largest and fastest growing Somali communities in the United States. SERC’s programs provide skills and literacy by expanding the knowledge of immigrants and refugees through teaching the financial, social, and cultural skills that provide a foundation toward self-sufficiency including:

● Schools and School districts both private and public
● Preschools and Childcare Centers
● Afterschool Centers and Community Centers
● Elder care
● Organizations that provide education and training to individuals, urban communities, and neighborhoods.

Annual Leadership Summit - February 22, 2024
Every year we host a youth summit that is geared to answer many troubling issues within our community. Our youth are integrating in ways that are not always as productive as we would have hoped. Some are plagued with drug addition and have fallen into criminal activities. SERC has partnered with a number of local area dugsis, religious organizations and city council member Kevin Boyce’s office to bring solutions that will change this negative narrative to a positive outlook for our future generations.
We are serious about changing the tide for the betterment of the greater Columbus, Ohio community as a whole.

Upcoming Fundraiser - December 15, 2023
This December SERC is partnering with local area parties to have an event to remember. It allows noteworthy people and local area businesses to invest in our best resource yet, “Our children!”
At this event we will have talent performances such as poetry readings, religious dance performances, special interest showings and give awards to local area individuals and businesses for their stellar leadership and community service.
